Tubes, Tubes, Tubes.

533a ge hickok rca tube tube tester tubes vacuum

In the past six weeks we've purchased just over 2,000 new vacuum tubes.  Mostly these are RCA, with GE being a distant runner-up. 99% of these are new old stock.

Immediately after the Huntsville Hamfest I got to spend five quarantine days at home, so I spent that time inventorying the new tubes, and making sure I can answer the inevitable email question, "Hey, do you have any 6BE6 tubes in stock?".

Most of the tubes are in the original boxes, but the ones that were in boxes that had become too worn or damaged (i.e. torn off flaps, moisture damage, etc.) to protect the tube inside, so those were replaced with new white boxes, and marked appropriately.

"Inventorying tubes" means the tubes are now written on a piece of paper with notes on their locations, so they can be found if needed.  It will take months, many months, to get all of these tubes tested, photographed, descriptions written, and posted on the website.

To make that job a bit simpler, I now have a Hickok 533A tube tester.  This will replace the current gaggle of testers I've been using, except for my favorite Triplett, which will remain on the job.
