July 22, 2023 was the Cullman, AL hamfest. By all rights it should be oppressively hot at this please (July in Alabama? No A/C? Hot!), but the host club keeps good air flow with large floor fans, and despite the outside temps, the inside of this cinder block building at the fairgrounds stays very comfy all day. The three hour drive over was wet but pleasant.
We arrived as early as they would allow, and got unloaded and set up in record time. The crowd at Cullman is always a fun group. Lots of gear there to see, and lots of nice people to visit with. The room is arranged in sort of an odd horseshoe shape, so one half of the vendors cannot see the other half of the vendors.
The hamfest was good for selling smaller items. I didn't see any big money changing hands, though there were some good items available for sale. Several Ameritron amps and several repeaters were on hand.
We met Lou K4HNH and Chris KQ4CRY at Cullman. They host a series of podcasts called Hikin' N' Hammin'. Lots of apostrophes, but you can find them on YouTube by searching for hikinnhammin. They visited with us for awhile, and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. They produced a very good video that day that is representative of what the Cullman Hamfest is really like. I'll put a link to it at thye bottom of this article.
