The Cullman hamfest has been a staple of the north Alabama radio community for many years. In years past, the hamfest was held in the city civic center, which was torn down several years ago. Supposedly the city was going to build a new civic center, but that effort seems to be slow getting started.
The 2022 hamfest was held in Building #1 at the Cullman Fairgrounds. It is a large, metal building with no air conditioning, and the hamfest was held in July. In Alabama. Normally, that would sound like a really bad idea (temps were hovering around 90 degrees), but the reality was that it was very comfortable at the hamfest. The host club numerous giant floor fans around the hamfest floor, and the ventilation was such that the room stayed probably a comfy mid-to-upper 70s throughout the day.
All vendors were flea-market style vendors (our favorite sort), and there were around 20 vendors in attendance. I'd guess at least 200 attendees walked the floor throughout the day. The room opened to the public at 8AM, and the grand prizes were drawn around 1 PM. Between start and finish, several quality door prizes were given away.
Load-in was available Friday evening, and at 7 on Saturday morning.
A common question heard during this hamfest was "Will you be at Huntsville?", and the answer heard most often was "Yes". The Huntsville Hamfest this year will be August 20/21 in the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
