MFJ-986 3KW Roller Inductor Tuner, 1.8MHz - 30MHz, Factory Display

This is a tuner that was part of the MFJ hamfest display booth. It has no box, was never sold, was never in service. It has been checked thoroughly by an MFJ tech, and has a good operational biil of health. Cosmetically, it has some issues from being part of the hamfest display. The issues I see (purely cosmetic) are both side panels have hard scuffs through the paint and into the metal, and the top has two extra small holes from the security brackets. All of this can be seen in the photos. The face, back, and bottom are nice and clean. No case screws are missing or mismatched. No adhesive residue. Be sure to read the notes about demo/display units at the bottom. This is being sold as used due to the cosmetics.

It gives minimum SWR at only one setting. Broadband coverage ends constant re-tuning. The MFJ-986 is a rugged roller inductor antenna tuner that handles 3KW PEP SSB amplifier input power (1500 Watts PEP SSB output power). It tunes 1.8 - 30 MHz continuously, including MARS and WARC bands.

Wide-spaced tuning capacitor plates let you run high power without arcing. MFJ's lighted Cross-Needle Meter shows you SWR, forward and reflected power simultaneously. It reads peak or average power on 2000 or 200 Watt ranges. The lamp has on/off switch and uses 12 VDC or 110 VAC with any 12VDC power supply or wall wart.

The MFJ-986 uses a true current balun to force equal currents in the two antenna halves -- even if the antenna is not perfectly balanced! The MFJ TrueCurrentBalun gives superior balance over voltage baluns and minimizes unbalanced current. This reduces field pattern distortion, concentrates your power for a stronger signal plus it reduces TVI and RF in your shack caused by feedline radiation.

GENERAL NOTE ABOUT FACTORY DEMO/DISPLAY UNITS:

NEW (OPEN BOX): This is a new unit, in that it has never been sold or placed into service. This is a fully-functional unit that was used as a static display either in MFJ's offices or as part of MFJ's hamfest display booth. As such, it may have cosmetic scuffs or scrapes on the cabinet, it may have some extra, tiny holes (usually two at the most) in the cabinet from security brackets on the hamfest displays. Hamfest displays often had a "show sticker" applied to the cabinet. If so, those have been removed, and there may be some adhesive residue left where the sticker once was. Goo-Gone and rubbing with a thumbnail will usually remove all or most of the residue. The residue is a cosmetic thing only. Some case screws may be missing, or may be mismatched.

The photos here are of the actual item being sold, not "stock" photos. Please look closely at the photos, as those are the best guide to the cosmetic condition of the cabinet or case. If you'd like, you can always repaint the cabinet with readily available matte-finish black paint.

As a demo/display unit, there is no factory warranty, but there is a 30 day warranty from FatCat.Parts on items sold as New (Open Box). Warranty does not cover cosmetics, it covers only the functionality of the item. No factory packaging or paperwork is included.

On all demo/display units, what is being sold is what is seen in the photos. If it is not in the photos, it is not included, unless the listing specifies it is included.
