This may be one of the most overlooked pieces ever to appear in the MFJ catalog, the MFJ-8100 shortwave receiver.  

Put a 9V battery (not included) in the receiver, connect a long piece of wire as an antenna (the longer and higher the better), plug in some ear buds (or headphones or a powered speaker) and you can listen to the world's shortwave stations.

Despite its small size, it works.  You give up a little bit in signal separation and sensitivity, but if you're traveling, going camping, staying in a hotel, etc., and want to still listen to shortwave, this is a good solution.   

This one has been gently used.  Paint shows some wear in spots.
