MFJ-1204 Radio Digital Interface Box

The MFJ-1204 allows most non-digital (or pre-digital era) amateur transceivers to send/transmit digital signals (i.e., FT-8, JT65, etc).   I used one for several years to do FT-8 using an Icom 735 radio, a definite pre-digital radio.

The way this works is pretty brilliant.  The actual box part (MFJ-1204) can be configured to operate with a lot of different radio designs.   There is a config "block" inside that can be swapped out to make this work with different radios.

This particular MFJ-1204 is configured to operate with a radio that has an 8 pin DIN plug.  

According to the manual on MFJ's website, this configuration works for Icom 728, 735, 738, 746PRO, 751, 756PRO, 761, 765, 775, and 781 models.   Swapping the internal config block (extra blocks were available at MFJ a few years ago, I have not checked recently) and connecting cable would let this work other brands and models.  The manual does have a diagram of how to wire the config block to make it work on other models.
